"Shak" is an amazing young man. His Osteomyelitis, an inflammation of his bone tissue, caused him great pain and several surgeries have been performed over the years to help him gain mobility. Shak's pain restricted him from being able to be active, which is hard for a young man. Sometimes, as a teen it can seem "silly" to have a someone come to your room and have "play" time. Shak always welcomed our Child Life Specialists with a smile and conversation, even though he was tired and struggling with pain. He loves to play soccer, read and watch old movies. We are hopeful with his last surgery finished he will be able to play soccer for his high school team. Shak is our HERO for September.
